Komodo Dragon Sketch
Komodo Dragon Sketch Line Art
This design is for a boss character in a personal game, inspired by my childhood fascination with Komodo dragons. I researched their biology, diet, and geography to inform the design. The sketches, based on photo references, explore different positions, angles, and expressions to study their anatomy. The final line art consolidates these insights into a refined, memorable character for the game. The order from oldest to newest; Komodo Dragon Anatomy Practice 1/2, Komodo Dragon Anatomy Practice 2/2, Komodo Dragon Sketch, and Komodo Dragon Sketch Line Art.
Character Design Model First Draft
The first draft felt too abstract, so I redesigned it after releasing Swerve Hurdle. I aimed for a more detailed, technologically infused design that felt grounded in the game's universe while pushing creative boundaries. This new approach blends organic elements with futuristic enhancements.
Conceptualization
This concept art represents my vision for a mechanical Komodo dragon design, chosen for its striking color scheme and to engage players in identifying the creature. Intended as an early game boss, it serves as the first major challenge for the player. The blend of mechanical elements and the dragon's organic form creates a sense of danger and intrigue, setting the tone for the player's journey.

This overview demonstrates the geometry, textures, and 2D-to-3D implementation through a Model Video Preview, Base Model, Wireframe w/ Base Model, and Wireframe w/0 Base Model. It showcases the character’s progression from early concepts to fully developed assets, focusing on how textures and geometry come together in 3D. The wireframes emphasize the structure and flow, ensuring the design is optimized for animation and gameplay.
Rendering
When I thought of the color design I wanted random cohesive structure since each section are complimentary colors. The only parts that are not complimentary colors are the tongue and joints to help balance and contrast the design. I’m happy with the results of this design because I’ve went out my comfort zone with colors and made the design distinct to me.
