Research

For a class assignment on steampunk chess pieces, I researched piece movements, chess set designs, and steampunk aesthetics, focusing on colors like red, yellow, brown, black, and grey, as well as gears. I then began modeling the pieces.

This overview showcases the geometry, textures, and 2D-to-3D implementation through the Model Video Preview, Base Model, Wireframe w/ Base Model, and Wireframe w/o Base Model . The challenge was ensuring cohesion while clearly representing each piece's role. My design focused on simplicity, using colors and gears, with added detail and size for the Queen and King to highlight their importance, similar to traditional chess designs. The order from oldest to newest; Pawn, Bishop, Rook, Knight, Queen, and King.

Final Design Model Renders

Chess Pieces Set

Render

Chess Pieces Set is shown side-by-side in the render (pawn, knight, bishop, rook, queen, and king) on a board to highlight their cohesiveness. I'm satisfied with the design and plan to incorporate it into my personal project as enemy designs due to its unique aesthetic.
